ABERDEEN, S.D. – After day one of the NSIC Championship heptathlon, freshman
Emily Olson is in 13th. With personal-best outdoor marks in the in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and 200-meter dash, Olson scored 2,556 points and will compete in the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run on Monday, April 30.
A native of Champlin Park, Minn., Olson currently owns the No. 2 heptathlon score in USF history with 3.575 points and she is nearly 200 points ahead of her pace – she scored 2,362 points on day one of the Red Raider Open heptathlon on April 20-21.
On Sunday, Olson opened the competition with a PR in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.29 seconds, which is worth 804 points on the heptathlon scoring scale. She added her second personal-best performance when she cleared 1.51 meters (4 feet-11.25 inches) in the high jump to add 632 points.
In the shot put, Olson recorded a best throw of 8.59 meters (28-2.25) to score 438 points. Closing the first day, Olson hit her third PR by running 27.36 seconds in the 200-meter dash, adding 682 points to arrive at her day-one total 2,556 points.
