Men's Golf Ties for 6th at Husky Classic

The University of Sioux Falls men's golf team wrapped up play at the Husky Classic on Monday, finishing in a two-way tie for sixth place with Winona State. St. Cloud State played host to the 16-team tournament on Sunday-Monday, Sept. 23-24 at the par 72, 6,676-yard St. Cloud Country Club.

The Cougars finished the tournament with a 17-over 305 in the second and final round, leaving them in a sixth-place tie with the Warriors at 28-over 604. The host team St. Cloud State took the top spot in the tournament, shooting a 14-over 302 on the final day to finish at 14-over 590. Minnesota State-Mankato finished second at 17-over 593, while Manitoba (597), Bemidji State (599) and Concordia-St. Paul (601) rounded out the top five teams.

Seniors Jordan Mueller and Levi Smith led the Cougar men, as each finished in a tie for
eighth place at four-over 148. 
Mueller entered the day tied for second after leading the Cougars with a 2-under 70 on Sunday, but slipped down the leaderboard with a second round score of 78 (+4). Smith began the day in a tie for 11th place and fired a three-over 75 today to tie his teammate in the final standings (73-75=148).

True freshmen and Sioux Falls Christian products Andrew Nelson and Jon Van't Hul both carded identical two-day scores of 10-over 154 (78-76) to finish in a tie for 33rd with 10 other competitors.

Freshman Nick Gottsleben rounded out the Cougar lineup with a tie for 76th at 21-over 165 (82-83).

Competing as individuals for USF were Josh Atkins (82-82=164, +20, t-74th), Zac Pruner (86-83=169, +25, t-81st) and Brennan Thompson (84-87=171, +27, 84th).

There was a five-way tie for first but MSU's Ross Miller was named the medalist as he fired the lowest second score of the quintet. He carded a two-under par 70 on Monday to finish at even-par 144. Mankato's Bennett Black, John Hafdal of Bemidji State, Husky Devin Holmes and John Potter of Concordia-St. Paul also finished the tournament at even-par 144.

The Cougars will compete this weekend at the South Dakota State University Invitational, to be held at Minnehaha Country Club.
