SIOUX FALLS, SD - USF Swimming opened day one of the Augie Invite with 11 returning for the finals. 11 teams will compete over the next two days across NCAA, NAIA and Junior Colleges.
Alessia Moro and Weronika Mrozek started the day off with qualifying times in the 500 freestyle. Moro claimed 8th with a time of 5:09.80 while Mrozek was just behind in 9th at 5:11.27. Valentina Brunelli and Sarah Knox also qualified with times of 5:15.74 and 5:16.27 respectively.Â
Emily Aten finished 14th in the prelims to qualify for the day one finals in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:10.91.Phoebe Mosley* and Inte Pas also qualified with times of 2:12.61 and 2:13.90.
Phini Schumacher* tied for 14th in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.97 along with Ursula Demarquet-Alban, Valerie Childs and InnShe Yap. Demarquet-Alban clocked in at 24.07 in 18th, Childs* at 24.15 in 21st and Yap at 24.68 in 35th.
After returning for finals, Moro* started the night off with a 4th place finish in the 500 freestyle 'A' Final with a time of 5:05.07 with teammate Mrozek in 10th at 5:17.09. Brunelli and Knox tabbed 7th and 8th respectively in the 'B' Final with times of 5:12.40 and 5:14.01.
Aten tied in the 'B' Final of the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.34 and a 6th place finish while Mosley* and Pas finished 4th and 5th in the 'C' Final with times of 2:10.94 and 2:11.02.
Schumacher* rounded out the night with a 3rd place finish in the 'B' Final 50 freestyle with a time of 23.87. Demarquet-Alban finished 10th in the same final with a time of 24.61. Childs tied for 5th in the 'C' Final with a time of 24.38 while Yap took the top spot in the 'D' final with a time of 24.25.
The Cougars 200 freestyle 'A'Â relay team posted a time of 1:36.42 and an 8th place finish with team members consisting of Schumacher, Demarquet-Alban, Domenica Solano Ocampo and Valerie Childs.Â
Sioux Falls' 'B' relay team placed 18th with a time of 1:40.82 and consisted of Yap, Ashtyn Molesworth, Josie Schlachter and Mosley. Emily Groom, Alyssa Nelson, Katelyn Welle and Olivia Delarosa finished 27th with a final time of 1:50.91
USF picked up a third place finish in the 400 medley relay clocking in at 3:47.66 with team members being Solano Ocampo, Pas, Schumacher and Childs.
Hannah Warmbrand, Yap, Groom and Demarquet-Alban finished at 3:59.51 and a 15th place finished followed by Knox, Abby Ford, Natalia Escalante and Brunelli in 22nd at 4:07.56 and Sydnee Whetten, Aten, Mosley and Molesworth in 25th with a time of 4:12.25.
After day one, USF sits in 5th place on the leaderboard with 100.5 total points on the day. Sioux Falls also posted 15 season bests and eight personal bests on the day.Â
