SIOUX FALLS, SD - Cougar Swimming finished day two of the Augie Invite in 5th place while setting 13 career records.
"Session four can start to become challenging both mentally and physically," stated Interim Head Coach Anna Moore. "These ladies showed up tonight to have fun, swim fast and race, and they've done just that."
Valerie Childs* started the preliminary round leading all NSIC schools with a 2nd place finish in the 100 butterfly at a career best 56.13 followed by Phini Schumacher* in 3rd at 56.14 career best. Inn She Yap recorded an overall 15th place finish at 58.19 along with Domenica Solano Ocampo in 18th at 58.41.
In the 400 IM, Emily Aten locked in her spot in the finals with a 6th place finish at 4:39.64. Inte Pas followed up with a 17th place finish at 4:45.66 along with Phoebe Mosley in 19th at 4:47.27. Sarah Knox and Weronika Mrozek also qualified at 4:51.95 and 4:53.50 respectively.
Alessia Moro* returned on day two with a career best in the 200 freestyle at 1:55.57 to qualify for finals along with Valentina Brunelli at 1:57.76.
Pas advanced to the finals after securing a 5th place finish in the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.99 followed by Yap* with a career best in 20th at 1:07.24. Abby Ford joined in with a 24th place finish at 1:08.56.
Solano Ocampo led the Coo in the 100 backstroke with a 12th place finish clocking in at 57.84 and was the only swimmer to make it back to the finals in this event.
Sioux Falls' 'A' relay team led all NSIC schools in the 800 freestyle relay with a 3rd place finish at 7:43.66 with team members consisting of Childs, Moro, Brunelli and Schumacher. Childs also clocked in a B-cut time in the 200 at 1:52.74 leading off the relay. Mrozek, Knox, Ursula Demarquet-Alban and Solano Ocampo finished 9th at 8:02.08.
Heading into the intermission, the Coo remain 5th place with 170.5 points.
After returning for the night cap, Solano Ocampo, Pas, Childs* and Demarquet-Alban teamed up for a 6th place finish in the 200 medley relay at 1:45.83. Mosley, Yap, Emily Groom and Aten clocked in at 1:49.98 and a 17th place finish. Sydnee Whetten, Ford, Natalia Escalante and Josie Schlachter finished 24th at 1:53.94.
Schumacher continues to make a name for herself with a B-cut time of 55.93 in the 100 butterfly and a 2nd place finish overall. Childs clocked in at 56.63 and a 5th place finish in the 'A" Final while Yap finished 3rd in the 'B' Final at 58.25 and Hannah Warmbrand 5th in the 'C' Final at 59.98.
Aten finished 9th in the 400 IM this evening at 4:41.04 followed by Mosley in 12th overall and 2nd in the 'B' Final at 4:41.32. Knox and Mrozek finished 3rd and 8th in the 'C' Final at 4:48.74 and 4:54.18 respectively.
Moro* shaved 1.77 seconds off her 200 freestyle time to finish 11th on the night and 1st in the 'B' Final at 1:53.80 followed by Brunelli at 8th in the same heat at 1:56.49. Escalante clocked in at 2:00.78 with a 9th place finish in the 'C' Final for the Coo.
Pas rounded out the top-5Â of the 'A' Final in the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.39 followed by Yap in the 'B' final finishing 10th at 1:08.03 and Ford in 4th in the 'C' Final at 1:08.41
Solano Ocampo secured a 1st place finish in the 'B' Final of the 100 backstroke at 57.44
After day two, USF sits in 5th place on the leaderboard with 336.5 total points thus far and will return tomorrow afternoon for the final day of the Augie Invite.Â
