Riley Miessner is going into his second year with the Cougars for the 2018-19 seasons, where he will be responsible for the Pole Vault, High Jump and Hurdles.
In his first year with the Cougars, his sole responsibility was the men’s and women’s pole vault. In the 2017 Indoor Season, Miessner coached the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Champion in the Women’s Pole Vault as well as the Runner-Up. For the Men, he coached the NSIC Conference Runner-Up. At the NCAA DII Indoor National Competition, Miessner coached the Women’s National Runner-Up in the Pole Vault. During the 2018 Outdoor Season, he coached a National Qualifier in the Women’s Pole Vault and the NSIC Conference Champion for the Women.
Prior to his time at USF, Coach Miessner was a Graduate Assistant Coach for Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD; a NAIA Institution in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. During his time spent at DWU, Coach Miessner received his Masters of Art in Educational Policy and Administration while coaching several events for the Track and Field team. During his two years at Dakota Wesleyan, he coach 5 NAIA National Qualifiers, 9 All-Conference Performers, 2 School Records and 38 All-Time Top Ten Performances for the Tigers.
Miessner graduated with his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science with a Minor in Athletic Coaching from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD; a NCAA Division II Institution in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. He was a four year letter winner in Track and Field for the Yellowjackets in which he competed as a Decathlete and held the Indoor Heptathlon School Record from 2010-2014.
Coach Miessner has his USATF Level I and his USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Certifications to round out his knowledge of Track and Field.
Coach Miessner (originally from Rapid City, SD) lives in Sioux Falls with his Wife Alyssa.
