Reid Johnson enters his
sixth season as an assistant track and field coach at the University of
Sioux Falls. Johnson specializes in horizontal jumps, which includes
the long and triple jump events.
The
Cougars horizontal jumps group has excelled under Johnson. During his
tenure, USF has produced an average of four national qualifiers in the
long and triple jump each season (not eligible in 2012-13).
USF's
most successful year in recent time came in 2011, when the men's and
women's horizontal jumpers tallied an impressive 15 All-Conference
honors and Nathan Bridgman captured the indoor Great Plains Athletic
Conference triple jump crown.
Prior
to coaching, Johnson was a three-time qualifier for the NAIA National
Championships and a 2007 outdoor All-American. Johnson's exceptional
work ethic helped him better his high school PR by eight feet. He would
later set USF's indoor and outdoor school records for the triple jump
event.
In
2008, Johnson qualified for the U.S. Indoor National Championships. He
currently owns a PR mark of 49'8" in the triple jump. Johnson's record
at USF still stands.
A
native of Watertown, S.D., Johnson received a Bachelor's of Arts in
Media Studies and Business Administration from the USF in 2007. He, his
wife, Breanne, and their three children, Gavin, Maddox, and Jacoby
reside in Sioux Falls.
