University of Sioux Falls senior golfer
Kyle Schock (Sioux Falls, S.D.) won the Palace City Classic (PAR 72/6265 Yardage) in Mitchell, S.D. this weekend.
Schock hit a seasonal-best round of 69 in the second round to overtake several golfers from other competing schools. Shock's first place helped the Cougars finish with a team score of 596, placing them fourth out of 12 teams.
USF hit even rounds over the two day tournament, scoring of 298 on both days for a total score of 596. The Cougars finished five strokes behind Hastings College (591), six strokes behind runner-up Minot State (590) and 13 strokes behind winner Dakota Wesleyan University (583).
Shock was in the chase pack after day one when he hit 72 for the first round to tie for fourth. Schock came back with the second lowest round of the entire field, hitting 69 for his second round to win the tournament with 141 strokes. Shock bested Iowa Central Community Colleges' Brock Ellingson by one stroke.
Levi Smith (So.; Sioux Falls, S.D.) was the Cougar's next highest finisher, tying for 21st with a score of 150. Luscas Dowden (Sr.; Freeman, S.D.) hit 152 to finish tied for 29th, while junior
Troy Klongerbo (Duluth, Minn.) was the Cougar's fourth and final scorer with a score of 154 to finish tied for 31st.
Competing in the junior varsity team, sophomore
Jordan Mueller (Yankton, S.D.) was actually the second highest finisher among USF participants. Mueller tied for 14th with a score of 148.
USF will finish its fall season with the second Great Plains Athletic Conference qualifier this Saturday, Oct. 7 hosted by Hastings College in Nebraska. GPAC teams compete in four qualifying tournaments over the fall and spring, with the scores being added to determine a 2010-2011 GPAC individual and a team champion. The Cougars are in fourth after the first GPAC qualifier.
