Quick Hits

The Series
Thursday's matchup will be the second ever between USF and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The first was two weeks ago (Jan.15) when the Mavericks used a second half surge to hand the Cougars their first home loss (74-61) of the season (box on page 4).

Saturday marks the second meeting between USF and Dakota State University in the last decade. Most recently, USF slayed the Trojans in a 74-46 blowout win at home. Like UN0, this is their second encounter in about two weeks (Jan.17).

State Champs
With wins over Augustana, DSU, SD School of Mines & Technology and Black Hills State, USF enters Saturday's game 4-0 vs. in-state opponents this season.

Deep Threat
Although the deepball is still an adequate scoring tool for USF, the Cougars have displayed balance in recent games attempting 22.5 3-point field goals in their last three wins. This number is considerably lower than their previous five outing s which consisted of 30+ attempts in each game. USF currently averages 8.8 3-point makes per game, shooting 32.6% from behind the arc.

Call on Me
On any given day, any player on USF's roster can handle a bulk of the scoring duties. If reflects their depth and overall scoring ability, as the Cougars have had seven different players lead the team in scoring this season.

First Time For Everything
USF saw its first opponent, in Minot State, shoot above 45% from the field this season during Friday's 66-62 win in Minot, N.D. The previous high shooting performance came in the first game of the season, when the Cougars allowed Southwest Minnesota State to shoot 43.6% from the floor. Minot claims the only +45% performance versus USF this season.

Keeping it Interesting
Friday was also USF's second game decided by five points or less and just their third decision by fewer than 10 points this season. The Cougars are 1-1 in games decided by five points or less and 3-0 in games decided by 10 points or less.

Post Jan.15
UNO has dropped two of their last three games since handing USF its greatest defeat this season (74-61) and only home loss. One of the Mavericks two losses came against a future NSIC foe in Concordia-St. Paul, who defeated UNO, 68-60 in Omaha, Neb. On the flipside, USF has won five straight since their meeting.

Impressive Numbers
The Mavericks have impressive numbers across the board, but their guard play especially stands out. Frauendorfer leads UNO with 9.4 rebounds per game and 13.2 ppg, while Nash has dished out 141 assists (6.4 apg) and sits No. 2 in scoring with 12.5 ppg. The duo makes up the Mavericks starting backcourt.

Who's Hot?
Holli Aggen exploded for a new career-high 23 points in last Saturday's win at Minot State. She was efficient, connecting on 8-13 attempts and 4-7 from downtown. Aggen also tied for a team-high two assists, while adding one steal.

Second Time Around
Both games this week will be the second time USF has face DSU and UNO this season. They look to avenge one of their two losses against UNO and hope to pick up their second win versus DSU.

Back in the Win Column
DSU ended a nine-game losing skid last Friday when they overcame a nine point deficit to defeat Trinity Bible and pick up their first win in the month of January. It was also head coach Joe Reints 100th career collegiate win.

Westover Effect
Kylie Westover's contributions are very apparent on the Trojan stat sheet. Although USF held her to 4-14 shooting for just eight points, she's typically in double figures, as she leads the team with 11.9 points per game. Westover also leads DSU in 3-point field goals made (46) and blocks (5). She's also the team's second best shooter at the free throw line (85%).

Up Next
The Cougars will engage in their second three game week, hosting Mayville Tuesday (Feb. 7) before heading to Rapid City, S.D. Friday (Feb.10) to face S.D. school of Mines and Technology and complete their week with a Saturday (Feb. 11) matchup with Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D.
