Sioux Falls followed up Monday's effort with a 308 today, giving them a two round total of 606 to finish sixth out of 10 teams at the First Federal Invitational in Branson, Mo. The Cougars placed two players in the top-20 of the individual leaderboard, as Jordan Mueller and Jon Van't Hul finished in a four-way tie for 17th.
Tournament host Henderson State University (288-298) claimed the team title, while individual medalist Tyler Koivisto (71-71) led NSIC foe St. Cloud State (293-300) to a second place finish. Newman University tallied the lowest team round of the Tuesday to jump four spots in the standings and claim third.
All five of USF's scorers finished within six strokes of each other. Van't Hul (76-75) did most of his damage with steady play, as he led the Cougars with 25 pars, while Mueller (74-77) capitalized on birdie opportunities, which he converted seven of; the field's third-highest total. Nick Gottsleben (75-77) also fired a 77 Tuesday to tie for 21st, while Levi Smith (73-80) fell to a tie for 24th in the standings. Andrew Nelson (78-79) tied for 39th overall. The First Federal Invitational marked the Cougars final regular play of the 2012-13 season. USF will compete in the spring portions of the NSIC Conference Championships. Behind current individual leader Mueller, the Cougars enter the final rounds tied for second in the team standings.
