Strong Final Round Pushes Cougars to 8th Place

The USF women's golf team turned in a strong performance on the final day of the NSIC Championships in Morton, Minn., shooting the third best team score on the final day to give the Cougars an 8th place finish as a team.

Tavia Rutherford led the charge for the Cougars as she shot the second lowest round of any individual with her score of 80. Rutherford finished the championships with a total score of 333 (+45).

Next in for the Cougars was Mikaela Theobald who finished in a tie for 19th place with her four round score of 354 (+66). After combining to shoot a 184 through the first two rounds, Theobald rebounded over the last two rounds, shooting a 170.

A trio of Cougars rounded out the competing athletes for USF as Tia Nihart (374/+86), Audrey Kieliszewski (378/+90) and Kelsey Leif (381/+93) all turned in one of their best performances in the four rounds of play. Nihart's six stroke improvement pushed her into a tie for 33rd place while Kieliszewski's improvement of six strokes had her sitting in 36th place. Leif improved on her third round score by three strokes, coming away from the championships with a 38th place finish.

USF's team score of 1430 (+278) was just five strokes behind 7th place Winona State while their 4th round score of 340 trailed only Augustana and Concordia-St. Paul for the best team scores of the round.
