ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf team wrapped up its fall schedule this week, finishing 13th at the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Missouri Western at St. Joseph Country Club. The two-day, 19-team event featured four programs from the NSIC and brought together one of the deepest regional fields of the fall season.
How It Happened
USF opened the tournament with one of its best rounds of the fall, shooting a 319 (+31) to sit fifth after Day 1. The Cougars were led by steady rounds of 78 (+6) from both Abbie Ritzer and Sophia Karsnia, while Gwen Latunski (+9) and Tanna Phares (+10) helped lock in the team's top four scores.
Tuesday's final round saw tighter leaderboard margins as several teams made moves up the standings. While the Cougars slipped back with a 335 (+47) to finish 13th, the top of the field remained highly competitive. Southwestern Oklahoma State took home the team title with a consistent +20 and +20 performance.
Head Coach Wade Merry saw plenty of learning opportunities in the team's final outing of the fall.
"It was a tough day for us, after playing pretty well on Monday. But, we can take away a lot of positives and build on them going into spring," Merry said.
