USF Swimming wins 12 events in 142-117 dual victory at U-Mary

BISMARCK, N.D. – Winning their second consecutive dual over a conference opponent, University of Sioux Falls swept their weekend competition with a 142-117 victory over University of Mary on Saturday. The Cougars won 12 of the 14 events, sweeping both relays and four different swimmers winning multiple events.
 
Maike Doerr won three individual events to lead the Cougars while Ingelin Lima, Allison Eppinga and Mackenzie Crane notched two individual wins. Lima and Eppinga swam legs on both winning relays, combining with Doerr and Crane for the 400 free relay title.
 
The Cougars opened the competition with a dominating win in the 400 medley relay as Eppinga (backstroke), Brianna Lavelle (breaststroke), Lima (butterfly) and Kyjana Webber (freestyle) posted a 4:10.80 to win by nearly six seconds.
 
Starting as string of three straight individual wins, Crane posted a 38-second victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:29.23. Doerr followed with a victory in the 200 free, taking the event in 2:01.05, while Webber placed fourth at 2:09.29. Eppinga capped off the Cougars' winning spree with the top 100 back time at 58.56 while Michelle Hoffin was third at 1:02.68.
 
Lavelle and Leah Eagleton both scored in the 100 breaststroke, placing third and fourth, respectively. Lavelle recorded a 1:12.56 and Eagleton clocked a 1:17.58. Doerr returned the Cougars to the top spot in the 200 butterfly, posting the top time at 2:13.71.
 
Lima brought USF their fifth win in the opening session, leading three Cougars in the top four of the 50 free with a 24.79-second time. Webber placed third at 26.03 and Karlie Tiede was fourth in 26.05.
 
After the break, Lima completed the sweep of the freestyle sprints, winning the 100 free in 54.12. Tiede followed in third at 56.90 seconds and Webber was fourth in 57.80. The trio of Lima, Webber and Tiede provided the Cougars with 28 points in the two free style sprints.
 
Eppinga and Hoffin led a 1-2 sweep in the 200 back with Eppinga taking the title in 2:07.55 and Hoffin as runner-up at 2:13.37. Lavelle scored in her second individual event of the day, placing third in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:43.33 time.
 
In the 500 free, Crane returned USF to the top spot with another easy victory. She posted the top time at 5:20.49 and Morgan Hockel scored with a fifth-place finish at 7:01.52. Doerr added her third title, completing her own sweep of the butterfly events, winning the 100-yard race in 1:00.01, and Tiede added a point in fifth at 1:09.77.
 
Hoffin capped off USF's dominance in the individual events by winning the 200 individual medley, edging second place by .33 seconds with the top time of 2:15.02. Lavelle finished fifth at 2:30.40 for another USF point.
 
The Cougars solidified their victory in the 400 free relay as Doerr, Eppinga, Crane and Lima combined for a 3:36.05 winning time, 14 seconds faster than U-Mary's runner-up time.
 
Sioux Falls returns to competition with a dual against cross-town rival Augustana on Nov. 19 at AU's Elmen Center.
