USF's Lexi Jonas earns first-ever NSIC Women's Golfer of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- After the best two-week stretch of her career, Lexi Jonas of the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team has earned the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Golfer of the Week which was released by the league office on Wednesday (Oct. 2).

Jonas earned her first career honor after a spectacular weekend at the Augustana Invite in which she won medalist honors for the first time in her career. Jonas of Hudson, Wis., carded a seven-over par total of 151 (78-73). With a second round finish of 73, Jonas registered her career-best round. Led by the play of Jonas, and three others who finished in the top 10, the Cougars won their first tournament team title in program history.

Just prior to the Augustana Invite, Jonas has a career-best performance at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Invite, in which she carded a two-round total of 148. For the first time, she had rounds of 74 and 74 and finished seventh at the tournament. If not for the strong play of senior Lexi Hanson, who won medalist honors with a program best 141 (67-74), Jonas would have established the program's top individual two-round total. Now, she has carded her best two rounds of her career in back-to-back tournaments.

Jonas and her teammates will compete in final tournament of the fall in Warrensburg, Mo., to partake in the Midwest Classic Golf Tournament on the Keth Memorial Golf Course at the Mules National Golf Club.
