Lexi Hanson of USF Women's Golf moves up five spots and finishes tied for 52nd at the NCAA DII Central Regional

Hanson finishes at 244 (83-79-82) in second regional of her standout career

MUSKOGEE, OKLA. – Junior Lexi Hanson of the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team concluded her season by carding rounds of 79 and 82 and ending with a 31-over par 244 (83-79-82) and tied for 52nd at the NCAA DII Central Super Regional which concluded today at par 71, 5,862-yard course at the Muskogee (Okla.) Golf Course. 

7874Due to the prospect of rain on Wednesday (May 8), meet officials moved up the third round with teams and players shooting two 18-hole rounds today. Hanson, who opened with an 83 on Monday, was one of six individuals competing along with 12 teams at the 54-hole NCAA DII Central Region Championships with the top four teams and top four individuals advancing to the NCAA DII Championship on May 14-18 at the PGA National Resort and Spain West Palm Beach, Fla.  

With her score, Hanson did not qualify for the NCAA DII national championship but nonetheless finished the season with a consistent effort masked in hard work.

USF Director of Golf Sam Vosler was impressed by Hanson's relentless hard work and resilience on a long day that included two 18-hole rounds (36 holes).

"Lexi really worked hard for her score today," said USF Director of Golf Sam Vosler, who pointed out that Hanson moved up five spots from 57th to 52nd on the second and final day of competition. "I was proud of how she kept battling. She didn't have her best game but she grinded out a long a day on the course as 36 holes in one day will test anyone," he said.

Hanson of Chanhassen, Minn., who is just the second-ever USF women's golfer (Tavia Rutherford) to participate at the DII regionals, opened with 83 Monday and followed up with a 79 in the second round, which included a birdie on hole 17 and nine pars. Then, she had a third round score of 82 with birdies on three holes along with five pars.

In the three rounds, she carded six birdies and registered 22 pars. As Vosler noted Hanson remained upbeat and focused throughout the tournament, which served as another learning opportunity for the junior standout.

"We didn't finish the way we wanted but there were a lot of positives to take away from the experience and the season," said Vosler of Hanson's second appearance at the DII Central Regional. "She played really well all season. I am excited for going into her season year. I really enjoyed being there with her for every shot and going through the highs and lows and that is what it is all about," added Vosler of Hanson who finished her season with a 79.66 per round average with 1,673 total shots on 21 rounds.

At the regional, Peerada Piddon of Arkansas Tech was the medalist with a three-over par total of 216 (70-70-76) while Shi Qing Ong of Missouri Western State finished second at five over par 218 (75-71-72). Despite Piddon's individual performance, Arkansas Tech finished second at 897 (299-294-304). They finished behind team champion SW Oklahoma at 41 over par of 893 (305-291-297). SW Oklahoma, Arkansas Tech, Northeastern State and winner of a playoff today between Minnesota State and Central Missouri will advance to nationals.
