SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Despite a loss in the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tennis Championships, University of Sioux Falls Head Tennis Coach
Kevin Grebin was pleased with this team's work ethic and performance this season.
The Cougars, which were seeded No. 6, fell to MSU Moorhead, the No. 3 seed, by a 4-0 score on Friday (April 23) at the Huether Family Match Pointe.
"I think what I take from today's match is that we battled like we have all season. It seemed that MSUM came up with the big shots at the right time," said Grebin, whose team was 7-6 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC for sixth place. "Still, I appreciate our effort and the hard work every member of this team put in. We will miss our three seniors –
Lexi Miller,
Rachel Klatt and
Victoria Ambrosio-Cueto and what they have given to the program," said Grebin, whose team had defeated MSUM, 5-2, earlier this season. "We have a lot of talented players returning and we look forward to getting back to work."
USF lost the doubles point when No. 1 doubles

Rachel Klatt and
Peyton Forney fell to Emma Andersen and Madison Bell, 6-3, in close competitive matches. At No. 2,
Joelle Thorfinnson and
Danielle Thorfinnson trailed Lorissa Yuen and Mirandra Griechen, 4-3, when the doubles point was determined.
In singles play, Quandt dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Geske at No. 1 singles while
Lexi Miller lost to Rachel Nguyen, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 and
Rachel Klatt dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6 to Emma Andersen. With those matches plus the doubles point, the match was over with MSUM advancing to face Winona State..
Unfinished singles matches included
Talia Janos vs. Lorissa Yuen, who was leading, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Another unfinished matched was No. 4 singles where
Danielle Thorfinnson and Mikaela Griechen had split the first two sets. Thorfinnson won, 6-3, in the first set and lost, 6-2, in the second set before the match ended. At No. 5 singles,
Joelle Thorfinnson was leading Miranda Griechen, 1-0 as she won the first set, 6-4, when the match was called.
USF the season over, the Cougars finished 7-4 in league play for the third straight year with the exception of 2020 when the pandemic halted the season. USF closed the season by winning four of the last six matches.
