Women's Golf vastly improves in 3rd place finish, Veenendall sets career records and takes 2nd

LAKE CITY, MN - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf team posted a 22 stroke improvement in round two and rolled into 3rd place at an 86-over 662. Maggie Veenendall set and tied personal career records en route to taking second place at the Watkins Invitational. 


Winona State won their own tournament with a 49-over 625 followed by Upper Iowa at 61-over 637. Winona State's Carly Moon took the individual title with her six-over 150.

Veenendall carded her career best round on the final day with her two-under 70. She also tied her best two-round total with her seven-over 151 (81-70). In the first round she collected 10 pars and a birdie on the 434-yard hole 18. Her second round included 14 pars and birdies on the 392-yard hole 4, the 134-yard hole 5, and the 165-yard hole 15. In total she tallied 24 pars and four birdies in her record breaking outing. 

Paige Hillman continued her impressive freshman campaign by placing T12th with a 22-over 166. Her 12-over 84 in the first round consisted of six pars and a birdie on the 434-yard hole 18. She followed that with a 10-over 82 in the second round made up of eight pars and a birdie on the 131-yard hole 7. In total she sank 14 pars and two birdies. 

Annie Balduzzi tied her career best round with a nine-over 81 in the second round that contributed to her 16th place 24-over 168 (87-81). Her first round included seven pars while her second had 10 pars and a birdie on the 455-yard hole 16. 

Maddi Hanson finished 27th with a 34-over 178 (91-87). She tallied four pars in the first round followed by eight in the second for a total of 12. 

Savannah Vincent finished 28th with a 38-over 182 (90-92). Vincent carded 10 total pars with five in each round. 

Ashley Tackett finished 29th overall with a 41-over 185 (96-89). She recorded 11 total pars with five in the first round and six in the second. 

"Maggie was exceptional today, we're all proud of her." Said Head Coach Wade Merry, "Paige shot well too, she's getting more and more comfortable playing at the collegiate level. We had a great second day, I was really impressed with how much we improved, we're ready for our final tournament." 

The Cougars will close the fall season back in Sioux Falls at the Augustana Fall Invitational on October 2nd and 3rd.
