BLUE SPRINGS, MS. – Led by the top-20 showing from freshman
Paige Hillman, the University of Sioux Falls Women's Golf Team sits 14
th at the highly competitive Central Region Preview after the first day of competition. The tournament at Adams Pointe Golf Club will conclude tomorrow, September 8 with an 18-hole final round.
USF has shot a total 323 which lands 35-over par for this first round on the par-72 course. Fellow NSIC members Upper Iowa and Wayne State College sit 13th and 18th respectively with UIU just one stroke ahead of USF. The Cougars need to erase just a six-stroke gap with Missouri Southern State and Oklahoma Baptist University to break into the top-10.
In her USF Women's Golf debut, Hillman not only carded a top-20 score but her first-round 77 (40-37) leads the USF contingent. Hillman shot a five-over par, through the first day. Hillman has carded 10 pars plus birdies on the 465-yard hole 14 and 335-yard hole 16 in her opening round.
2020's Newcomer of the Year and All-Conference award winner Maggie Veenendall carded a seven-over par 79 (39-40) through the opening round. Veenendall has played 11 holes at par with a birdie on the 457-yard hole 9 to tie her for 36th in the tournament.
Senior Marisa Weeks sits tied for 63rd after playing to 11-over par at 83 (39-44) in the opening round. The highlight of her outing was a birdie on the 457-yard par 9 along with six pars in her 18-hole round.
Maddi Hanson begins her junior campaign at 12-over par with an 84 stroke total (40-44) putting her in a tie for 72nd place. Hanson shot nine pars during the opening round.
Freshman Ashley Tackett made her debut as well in this opening round where she sits tied for 89th after shooting 16-over par with a total of 88 (45-43). Tackett sank six pars plus a birdie on the 136-yard hole 12.
