SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls men's basketball team picked up their second win of the season during their home opener tonight against Dakota State University. USF came away with a 75-61 victory over the Trojans.
WHAT HAPPENED
· The Cougars battled DSU for an early lead and never looked back.
· USFs Matt Cartwright put up 22 points on the night while shooting 6-13 form the field, 5-9 from beyond the arch and 5-6 from the line.
· Chase Grinde played his 100th game as a Cougar tonight after he scored his 1,000 career point last weekend against Pittsburg State.
· Sioux Falls maintained a fast past game during tonight's match-up and will look to continue the momentum into this weekend.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
· Matt Cartwright (22), Jack Thompson (14), Jake Kettner (13) and Zane Alm (11) led the Coo in points tonight combining for 60 of USFs 75 points on the night.
· Alm pulled down a career high nine rebound on throughout tonight's match-up followed by four blocks.
· Thompson dished out four assists on the night while going 4-4 from the free throw line and 5-7 from the field.
TEAM STATISTICS
· USF went 24-61 from the field, 7-23 from beyond the arch and 20-28 from the free throw line.
· Sioux Falls put up 22 points in the paint while also scoring 23 points off of DSU turnovers.
UP NEXT
Sioux Falls (2-1) hits the road to take on Chadron State in Chadron, NE this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (CT). USF and CSC will meet up for the 3rd time since 2018 this weekend with USF holding a 3-0 series lead.
