MINOT – The University of Sioux Falls men's basketball team opened the 2023 portion of their season with a 66-63 victory over Minot State and advanced to 11-4 on the year and 6-3 in the NSIC.
WHAT HAPPENED
· The Cougars found 18 of their 26 first half points come beyond the arch led by Matt Cartwright and Kenji Scales each with three.
· Although USF only saw four Cougars score in the first half, Sioux Falls rallied for a 40 point second half to seal their 11th win of the season.
· Sioux Falls forced Minot to nine turnovers on the night while picking up 11 points off Beaver turnovers.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
· Matt Cartwright led the Cougars tonight with 21 points followed by Jack Thompson with 14 and Noah Puetz with 12.
· Thompson pulled down a season high 11 rebounds on the night followed by Chase Grinde with seven.
· Thompson also dished out six assists on the night for the Coo.
TEAM STATISTICS
· Sioux Falls went 23-51 from the field this evening while going 10-16 from the free throw line and 10-19 from beyond the arch.
· The Cougars saw just nine points come off their bench, but forced 20 points in the paint.
UP NEXT
The Cougars continue their road series tomorrow afternoon as they take on the UMary Marauders. The women's game will tip off at 3:30pm followed by the men's game at 5:30pm.
