BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team was picked to finish 8th in the NSIC Preseason Poll. Minnesota State Mankato was picked to finish first by the league coaches in the NSIC Preseason Women's Basketball Poll. The NSIC regular season championship will be based on the 22-game schedule. Each team will play eight teams twice and another six teams once. An NSIC Champion will be awarded to the team with the highest win percentage in the 22 games played. The 12-team NSIC Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Championships are set to take place March 2-5 at the Sanford Health Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The top four seeds will receive a first-round bye. First round games will be played on campus on Wednesday, Feb. 28.


The USF Women's Basketball team finished last year at 8-20 and 5-17 in conference play. Head Coach Travis Traphagen is very excited about his 2023/24 squad. "Coming off last year's season we had so many injuries that it gave a number of kids experience that maybe they would have not gotten if it wasn't for all the injuries. We have number of those kids back and have added some exciting players. We will still be playing a number of young kids but the future of our program looks great."

Brecli Honner was named USF's Athlete to Watch this season. Brecli is from Harrisburg and is a Junior for the Coo. Last season she averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds per game. Coach Traphagen loves the versatility of Honner and hopes she can continue her growth as a player. "Brecli is a do it all type of wing," said Traphagen, "She can attack the rim and post up for us. She has really improved her 3 point shooting and will be a force for us this season both on the offensive end and defensive end of the floor."

The Cougars open their season on Monday November 13. They take on Mount Marty at the Stewart Center on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls at 7:00PM.
