Cougar Basketball Dominates Augustana


Sioux Falls, SD. – The University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball team picked up their second win of the season tonight defeating cross town rival Augustana. The Cougars won in the Elmen Center 83-64.

USF and Augie played a close first 20 minutes in the first half with the Cougars leading 32-29. The Coo came out with their usual defensive intensity holding the Vikings to 34% shooting from the field and only 20% shooting from 3 going 2-10. Offensively, USF shot 44% from the field but only 25%. The Cougars led by 11 at one point in the half, but Augustana was able to cut the lead all the way to 1 before USF closed the half with a jumper from Jack Thompson to bump the lead to 3.  

The Cougars caught fire in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 51-35. The Coo shot 53% from the field and 66% from 3 making 6-9. The USF defense continued to hold up its end of the bargain, holding the Vikings to 32% from the field and 23% from 3. The Cougars won the points in the paint battle 30-20 and the rebounding battle 41-29. Augustana had 22 bench points compared to USF's 39 and the Cougars had 14 points off of Viking turnovers. USF shot 49% from the field and 42% from 3 for the game overall. 

LEADERS

The Cougars were led in scoring by Redshirt Freshman Kyle Ingwerson who had a career high 20 points. Kenji Scales poured in 19 points, Noah Puetz chipped in 11, and Jack Thompson added 10.

Creighton Morisch and Ingwerson tied for a game high in rebounds with 8 each. Jack Thompson also added a career high 7 boards. 

Jack Thompson dished out a game high 8 assists which is also a career high for him. Creighton Morisch was next on the team in assists with 3. Thompson also played the most minutes out of anyone on both teams with 37.

UP NEXT

The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday November 25 at home against Chadron State. This is the first home game for Men's Basketball this year with the game taking place in the Stewart Center starting at 3:00PM.
