Cougar Swimming Sweeps #16 Augustana and St. Cloud in Season Opener

Sioux Falls records numerous national marks

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Swim team opened their season sweeping #16 Augustana, 167-127, and St. Cloud State, 187-107. The Cougars start their season 2-0 for the first time since 2020.

USF had six swimmers within the top-10 along with five swimmers in the top-5 when it came to points scored on the day. Valerie Childs paved the way with 625.3 on the day along with three first place finishes and one second place finish. Childs had two individual gold performances in the 100 and 200 freestyle and one in the 400 freestyle relay alongside of Ursula Demarquet-Alban, Alessia Moro and Phini Shumacher. The teams 400 freestyle relay landed them first in all of Division II with a time of 3:35.51.

Freshmen Alessia Moro and Phini Schumacher also tabbed three first place finishes followed by Domenica Solano Ocampo and Ursula Demarquet-Alban with two and Inte Pas with one.

The Cougars made a big splash in the national standings following today's performances. Currently, Sioux Falls has 16 swimmers within the top-5 in the nation across their perspective events along with two relay top-2 performances. USF holds the top spot in five categories nationally and leads the NSIC in 11 events.

Sioux Falls will be back in action next Saturday when the hit the road to take on SMSU.
