MITCHELL, S.D. - The Cougars kicked their dual season off with a 41-6 win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers tonight.
103-pounds: Kyla Schwager picked up the forfeit while DWU was open
110-pounds: Ava McNeal picked up the forfeit while DWU was open
117-pounds: Rei Ogden picked up the forfeit while DWU was open
124-pounds: Teila Peters picked up the forfeit while DWU was open
133-pounds: #14 Brinley Green defeated Adrian Farren in a first period 10-0 tech fall in 2:10 to advance to 9-3 on the season. Green opened the match with a quick 2-point takedown followed by an exposure, also worth 2-points, to take an early 4-0 lead. Green followed it up with a duck under for another 2-point takedown to take a 6-0 lead. With 1:12 remaining, Green tacked on another 2-points before sealing the deal with 50 seconds left in the first period.
138-pounds: McKenna Hendrickson defeated Mady Sargent in another first period 10-0 tech fall in 2:39 to advance to 2-4 on the season. Hendrickson started the match with a 2-point takedown followed by another 2-point takedown and 2-points for exposure. With 1:07 in the first round, she picked up 2-point takedown before capping it off with her final 2-point takedown with 21 seconds left in the first period.
145-pounds: Ciana Grate defeated Jayden Lang in a 4:28 pin in the second period to advance to 4-4 on the season. Lang started the match early and took a 4-0 lead before Grate responded with a 2-point exposure while giving up a 2-point takedown to drop to a 6-2 deficit before capping off the first period with a 4-point takedown to make it 6-6. Grate opened the second period with a takedown before giving up 6-points and responding with a reversal to finish the match by fall.
160-pounds: Kylie Hulse defeated Olivia Smith in a 10-1 decision to advance to 5-2 on the season. Hulse controlled the match by scoring 8-points in the first period to take an early 8-1 lead. Although the second period was slower in action, Hulse added a 2-point takedown to take the 10-1 decision.
180-pounds: Addaly Pals-Miller fell to Isabelle Camarillo in a 1:12 pin to fall to 2-5 on the year. Pals-Miller opened the match with a 2-point takedown before getting stuck with 1:48 left in round one.
207-pounds: Gia Miller defeated Kaitlin Gay in a first round 2:17 pin to start her season 1-0. Miller opened the scoring with a 2-point takedown before sticking Gay with a 2:17 fall with 43 seconds left in the first period.
