USF Women's Wrestling Rolls Past Beavers in 33-16 Win

MINOT, N.D. - USF Women's Wrestling advanced to 4-0 on the season with a 33-16 victory over Minot State tonight.  

The Beavers were open in the first three weight classes with Ava McNeal (103), Paw Hobza (110) and Rei Ogden (117) all picking up forfeit victories. 

Teila Peters got the night started for the Cougars at 124-pounds against Skye Shelmerdine. Peters opened the match with a takedown before Shelmerdine responded with one of her own. With another takedown and exposure points, Peters took a 6-2 lead before ending the first period 6-4. Shelmerdine scored first in the second period to tie it at 6 apiece before Peters regained the lead with two pushout points and a takedown to take a 10-6 lead before the match was called due to injury. With an extra match against Emily Hill, Peters added a 4:11, 18-7 tech fall to advance to 10-6 on the season and 5–0 in dual settings. 

At 131-pounds, Mackenzie Armagost took on Keela Kary while scoring first with a 2-point takedown and exposure point before repeating the sequence to take an early 8-0 lead. Kary responded with a takedown midway through the first period before Armagost closed the match with a 4-point throw and a 1:49, 13-2 tech fall win. Armagost advances to 9-7 on the season and 3-0 in duals. 

Diann Smith took on Lovey Beebe at 138-pounds. Smith scored first with a takedown before Beebe responded with less than a minute left in the first period to tie it 2-2. Opening the second period, Smith added another takedown to take a 4-2 lead, but Beebe responded with a takedown of her own to put Smith on her back for a 5:14 pin. Smith moves to 7-7 on the year and 3-1 in dual matchups. 

At 145-pounds, Ciana Grate took on Haleigh Lematta. Lematta opened the match with a quick 4-point takedown followed by two 2-point takedowns for an early 8-0 lead. Grate added a pushout point to end the first period down 8-1. With a 4-point throw and a 12-1 lead, Lematta secured the 3:50 pin over Grate. Grate now moves to 7-7 overall and 3-1 in duals. 

Maizy Mathis took on Megan Ebach at 160-pounds while opening the match with a 4-point throw and four exposure points before sealing a quick 1:08 pin. Mathis advances to 6-5 on the season and 3-1 in dual matchups. 

At 180-pounds, Kylie Hulse took on #17 Nina Sandoval falling in a 1:54 pin. Hulse moves to 9-4 on the year and 2-2 in duals. 

Zoe Adam closed out the night against Madilyn Schuck at 207-pounds. Adam scored first with a 2-point takedown followed by another takedown and four exposure points for an 8-0 lead to end the first. With a pushout point for Adam to open the second period, Adam took a 9-0 lead before landing a 4-point throw to finish the match with a 3:52, 13-0 tech fall to advance to 7-5 on the season and 3-0 in duals. 

Aliyah Villarreal took on Megan Ebach at 160-pounds for her first match of the season. Villarreal started her season off strong with a 1:14 pin for a 1-0 start to her sophomore campaign.
