Sioux Falls, S.D. – Behind a dominant fourth-quarter surge, the University of Sioux Falls football team (2-0, 1-0 NSIC) captured a 42-28 win over Northern State (0-1, 0-1 NSIC) on Saturday evening at Bob Young Field. A crowd of 3,562 fans saw the Cougars use a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive stops to secure their first conference win of the 2025 season
First Half Battle
USF struck first midway through the opening quarter when
Camden Dean found
Adonis Hutchinson on a 16-yard touchdown strike to cap a methodical 75-yard drive. Northern State answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass of their own to even the score at 7-7.
The defenses settled in until just before halftime, when
Bubba Tann III powered into the endzone from three yards out, sending the Cougars into the break with a 14-7 lead.
Momentum Swings in the Third
The Wolves tied the game early in the third quarter with a 94-yard kickoff return touchdown, only for USF to respond quickly. Dean connected with
Dahlton Wood on a two-yard score to restore the lead. But Northern State answered right back with a 75-yard strike to tight end Zach Kraft, knotting things at 21-21 heading to the final frame.
Fourth Quarter Surge
The Cougars took control in the fourth, stringing together three consecutive touchdown drives. Dean found Tann III on a 13-yard scoring pass before the Wolves briefly tied it again on a 68-yard quarterback keeper from Daniel Britt. From there, USF's ground game took over—Tann III added his third touchdown of the night on a bruising two-yard run, and Dean sealed the victory with a two-yard rushing score in the closing minutes.
By the Numbers
Dean finished an efficient 20-for-26 for 228 yards and three passing touchdowns, while also adding a rushing score.
