Sioux Falls Earns Weekend Sweep Over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Tennis (4-3, 3-1 NSIC) team put together a dominant NSIC weekend on the road, earning back-to-back victories over University of Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State University.

USF controlled doubles play in both duals and showcased depth throughout the singles lineup, earning a 4-3 win over Minnesota Crookston before following it up with a 7-0 sweep of Bemidji State on Saturday.


USF 4, Minnesota Crookston 3

The Cougars set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Sofiya Janos and Chloe Siegfort secured a 6-4 victory at the top flight, while Sydney Osburn and Ella Hancock followed with a convincing 6-2 win at No. 2.

In singles, USF earned three straight-set victories to clinch the match. Siegfort delivered a strong 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1, and Janos dominated at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 result. Hancock added a key 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4, and Emily Thinnsen contributed another straight-set win at No. 5 (6-3, 6-0).

Minnesota Crookston picked up points at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, but the Cougars' early doubles advantage and depth through the middle of the lineup proved to be the difference.

The Cougars delivered their most complete performance of the weekend against Bemidji State, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point.

Janos and Siegfort earned a 6-4 win at No. 1, Hancock and Osburn rolled 6-1 at No. 2, and Lemke and Rangel closed out doubles with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.

Singles play followed the same script.

Siegfort battled to a 6-0, 7-6 victory at No. 1, while Janos edged her opponent 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2. Osburn showed resilience in a three-set win at No. 3 (3-6, 6-3, 6-3), and Hancock was dominant at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 performance.

Thinnsen secured another three-set victory at No. 5 (6-3, 4-6, 6-2), and Rangel capped the sweep with a gritty comeback at No. 6 (5-7, 6-4, 1-0).

USF won five of six singles matches in straight sets and claimed both three-set contests to complete the 7-0 team victory.
