SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Sioux Falls Athletics and head women's wrestling coach Griffin Osing have announced the hiring of Jayleen Sekona as the program's next Assistant Women's Wrestling Coach.
Sekona joins the Cougar coaching staff after a decorated collegiate wrestling career at Colorado Mesa University, where she established herself as one of the top women's wrestlers in NCAA Division II while also gaining valuable leadership, operations and administrative experience within collegiate athletics.
A four-time NWCA NCAA All-American, Sekona brings championship-level experience to Sioux Falls along with a passion for mentorship, student-athlete development and growing the sport of women's wrestling.
"I'm incredibly excited to welcome Jayleen to Sioux Falls and the Cougar family. From the very beginning of the process, she stood out because of her character, coaching philosophy, and experience as both a student-athlete and a leader. I have no doubt that she will make an immediate impact on our program in a variety of ways. We can't wait to get her on campus and begin working alongside her."
-Head Coach, Griffin Osing
During her time at Colorado Mesa, Sekona balanced competition with a variety of leadership and athletics administration roles. She worked within the Colorado Mesa athletic department supporting day-to-day operations, compliance monitoring, sponsorship communication and event operations, while also serving in admissions and student housing roles focused on student engagement and customer service.
Sekona has also demonstrated an entrepreneurial approach to growing the sport, founding Sekona's Summer Youth Wrestling Camp in Palmer, Alaska, where she organized sponsorships, logistics and daily coaching instruction. She also helped lead the Grow Women's Wrestling Camp in Wyoming and Alaska, continuing her commitment to expanding opportunities for female wrestlers.
"First and foremost, I want to thank God for providing me with another opportunity to do what I love. I'm incredibly grateful to my family and everyone who has supported and helped me along this journey. I've had an amazing collegiate career and have been blessed in so many ways to reach this point in my life. Now, I'm excited for the opportunity to give back to a sport that has given me so much. I look forward to working alongside Coach Osing and can't wait to meet the incredible young women in this program. Go Cougars!"
