Karsnia Leads Cougars to Runner-Up Finish at Mustang Invite

MARSHALL, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls women's golf team continued its strong fall with a runner-up finish at the Mustang Invite, held Sept. 26-27 at Marshall Golf Course. The Cougars finished the two-round event at 610 (+34), using a strong final-round performance to secure second place in the 12-team field.

Sophia Karsnia led the Cougars with an individual finish at 148 (+4) tying for first, while Gwen Latunski placed fourth at 149 (+5). Tanna Phares joined the duo inside the top 10 with a T-8 finish, while individual competitor Molly Halvorson also tied for eighth.

How It Happened

Sioux Falls opened the weekend with a 312 (+24), led by Karsnia and Latunski. Karsnia carded a 75 (+3) to position herself near the top of the individual leaderboard, while Latunski followed one stroke behind with a 76 (+4). Bryn Huber added a 79 (+7) as the Cougars put themselves in position to make a move during Sunday's final round.

USF responded with one of its strongest team rounds of the fall, cutting 14 strokes from its opening round to shoot 298 (+10). All four counting scores came at eight-over or better, led by Phares' even-par 72. Karsnia and Latunski each fired a 73 (+1), while Abbie Ritzer rounded out the scoring with an 80 (+8). The closing performance secured another runner-up finish for the Cougars.


Top Cougar Performers

Karsnia put together the top tournament of her fall, recording rounds of 75 and 73 to finish at 148 (+4). Her one-over 73 in the final round helped her finish tied atop the individual leaderboard. Latunski remained right behind her throughout the weekend, following an opening 76 with a 73 to finish fourth at 149 (+5).

Phares made one of the biggest moves of the final round. After opening with an 82 (+10), she fired an even-par 72 — the lowest round by a Cougar during the tournament — to climb into a tie for eighth at 154 (+10). Competing individually, Halvorson was steady throughout the weekend with consecutive rounds of 77 to join Phares at 154 (+10).
