Biography

CAREER: Four-time All-NSIC golfer...had three top-10 finishes in 2019-20 and has 17 top-10 finishes in his career with six top-five finishes and an individual title...twice led USF to eighth place finishes at the NSIC Championships with a fifth place team finish in 2018-19 and program best 3rd place in 2020-21...a three-time Academic All-NSIC selection who received the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award for a GPA of 3.75 or higher...was also named the Vucurevich School of Business Outstanding Entrepreneurial Studies Senior during the Spirit of Excellence presentation in May...graduated Cum Laude (3.78 GPA) in May with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurial Studies...graduated from the Master of Business Administration program

2020-21 (GRADUATE): Competed in all eight tournaments during the year.  Named first team All-NSIC. Helped USF achieve its highest placement at the NSIC Championship and first NCAA Regional berth. Earned CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-District VII honors. First USF golfer selected First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Named Preseason Player of the Year.
Natural State Golf Classic: 21st, eight-over 152 (79-73), eight birdies and 17 pars
Battle for the Belt: t-17th, 17-over 233 (76-76-81), nine birdies
Hillcat Classic: t-3rd, two-over 218 (76-72-70), one eagle, 10 birdies, and 31 pars
Washburn Invitational: 43rd, 22-over 235 (79-75-81)
NSIC Preview: t-18th, 10-over 152 (78-74), five birdies and 19 pars
Central Missouri Mule Invitational: t-14th, four-over 214 (71-73-70), 14 birdies
NSIC Championship: t-17th, 15-over 228 (81-76-71), eight birdies and 24 pars
NCAA Regional: t-45th, 12-over 225 (75-73-77), eight birdies and 29 pars

2019-20:  Named to the Academic All-NSIC Team (3.2 GPA or better) for a third straight year...also named to the NSIC's Academic Team of Excellence (3.6 GPA or better) for a second straight year...Named to the CoSIDA Academic District 7 Team...named the USF Male Athlete of the Year...was one of 32 NSIC Honor Athletes...competed in all six events totaling 13 rounds… his best round was a 69 which came in the second round of play at the Watkins Invitational, winning a playoff to capture the individual title with a two-round total of 140 (71-69)… his first place finish was one of his three top-10 finishes…with a 149 (75-74) for ninth place, helped USF to a team title at the Augustana Invite on Sept. 28-29...had four rounds at or under par and averaged 73.54 strokes per round which was the best on the squad... received the Myles Brand Academic Award of Distinction (3.76 GPA)... D2 ADA Academic Achievement Recipient

2018-19: Played in nine events for a total of 20 rounds… best round was a 70 at the MSSU Fall Invitational where he placed at a tie for 17th… his best finish was a 2nd place finish at the Polar Vortex Triangular where he shot a 75… one top-5 finish, four top-10 finishes, seven top-20 finishes… tied for 13th at the NSIC Championships with a three round total of 227 (78-72-77)… averaged a team leading 74.65 per round as well as a 3-over par average… received NSIC’s Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award… received 3rd straight NSIC honor by being named to the All-NSIC 2nd team for the 2nd time in his career… named to Academic All-NSIC Team and Academic All-NSIC Team of Excellence.

2017-18: Played in eight events for a total of 19 rounds… best round was a 71 in his first round at the BSU Invite where he finished at a tie for 9th… accumulated five top-10 finishes… finished 6th at the NSIC Championships with a three round total of 224 (76-75-73)… 18 of his 19 rounds were 77 strokes or less… averaged a team best 74.68 strokes per round and a 3-over par per round as well… was named to the All-NSIC 1st Team, the first Cougar to do so since joining the NSIC in 2012… named to the Academic All-NSIC Team… received the DII ADA Academic Achievement Award.

2016-17: Played in nine events for a total of 21 rounds… best round was a 68 in the first round at the UIU Spring Invite where he tied for 5th… two top-5 finishes, four top-10 finishes, seven top-20 finishes… best finish was his 4th place finish at the CSP vs USF meet… finished at a tie for 10th at the NSIC Championships with a three round total of 225 (75-77-73)… averaged 75.52 per round and a 4-over par for each round… was the first Cougar to be named to the All-NSIC 2nd Team since the Coo joined the conference in 2012.

HIGH SCHOOL: Starred at Pickstown, S.D.

PERSONAL: Son of Tom and Deb Cooney...enrolled to USF's Master of Business Administration program.
