Jack Nelson

Jack Nelson is in his first season as the associate head coach for the University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball program.

Nelson, who spent three years at USF from 2008-10, spent two seasons as head men's basketball coach at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, Wyo.

A native of Dillon, Colo., Nelson most recently directed Central Wyoming to consecutive 20-win campaigns, totaling a 41-21 record during 2016-18. He led Central Wyoming to a 20-12 mark, including 10-4 in league play, in 2017-18. His 2016-17 squad finished 21-9, losing in the Region IX Quarterfinals and claiming second in Region IX North Division with an 11-3 league mark.   

Before running the Rustlers program, he was on the Minot State staff, helping the Beavers to three double digit winning seasons, including the program's first NCAA DII winning campaign in 2015-16 (15-14) . 

He also coached at Saint Mary's University (Winona, MN.), USF, and Bellevue University.

In 2007, he began his coaching career at Saint Mary's University (Winona, Minn.), where he served as assistant men's basketball coach. At SMU, he assisted in all aspects of the basketball program including recruiting, game plans, and fund-raising.
 
In 2008, he joined Johnson's staff at USF, where he was an assistant men's basketball coach and head junior varsity men's basketball coach. He was on staff as the Cougars transitioned from NAIA to NCAA DII. Those USF teams enjoyed great success, compiling a 69-34 overall record and advancing to the NAIA National Tournament three consecutive seasons.
 
In 2011, Nelson moved to Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb. He served as assistant men's basketball coach, where he assisted in all aspects of running the program including strength and conditioning. During his one season at Bellevue, Nelson helped the team to a 28-6 overall record and an appearance in the NAIA Sweet 16.

He and his wife Jamie have two children, Raelynn and Kai.
