JJ Cooney

JJ Cooney is in his sixth season as an assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls Men's & Women’s Golf teams. A proud USF alumnus, Cooney competed for the Cougars from 2016 to 2021, building a highly decorated collegiate career.

JJ Cooney completed his fifth season as assistant golf coach in 2026, helping guide the USF women to a 2nd-place finish at the Augustana Spring Invitational and 5th at the NSIC Championship, while the men's squad tied for 2nd at the NSIC Championship. He helped mentor Charlie Hanson to an individual title at the USF Invitational alongside NSIC Newcomer of the Year and First-Team honors. A former Cougar Academic All-American, Cooney also supported the program's elite academic standard as USF golfers combined for two NSIC Team of Excellence honors, six NSIC All-Academic selections, and two CorTrust Scholar-Athlete awards.

Cooney earned both his Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Entrepreneurial Studies and his Master of Business Administration from USF. On the course, he played a key role in elevating the program, securing one individual title, four team titles, and leading the Cougars to their first-ever NCAA DII Regional Championship bid.
