John Rodman

John Rodman is in his first season as assistant coach for USF Track & Field/Cross Country distance runners and fourth year overall at the University of Sioux Falls.

Rodman returns to USF after previously serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the Cougars' cross country and track & field programs from 2019-22. During his previous stint at USF, Rodman assisted with the day-to-day coaching and development of student-athletes, worked with athletes toward individual performance goals and supported the program's recruiting efforts.

Rodman brings an extensive background in coaching, teaching and event administration to the Cougar program. He has served as a Cross Country, Track & Field and Road Race Coordinator with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation since 2018, organizing and administering running and track & field events while also helping lead youth track clinics throughout the community.

Prior to his first stint with the Cougars, Rodman spent more than a decade as an assistant cross country and track & field coach within the Sioux Falls School District. From 1991-2004, he helped coordinate practice schedules and individual training while working closely with coaches and student-athletes.

Rodman's connection to USF also extends beyond athletics. He served as an adjunct professor at the University from 2009-22, annually teaching K-12 content methods for Physical Education and Health. He additionally spent more than 30 years as a Physical Education Specialist with the Sioux Falls School District before retiring from the position in 2022.

A graduate of South Dakota State University, Rodman earned his bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education in 1990 before completing his master's degree in Physical Education/Teacher Education from SDSU in 1996.

Throughout his career, Rodman has also been recognized for his work in physical education. He was named the South Dakota Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 1996 and was a three-time Sioux Falls School District Teacher of the Year finalist. He also earned the American Alliance for Health and Physical Education Young Professional of the Year honor in 2004.

Rodman's return adds a familiar face to the USF staff and brings decades of experience in distance running, athlete development and the Sioux Falls running community back to the Cougar cross country and track & field programs.
