Meghan Nelson enters her second year as an assistant coach for the University of Sioux Falls women's basketball team.

Nelson is coach Traphagen's top assistant, and focuses heavily on USF's recruiting efforts. Nelson recently completed a five-year playing and coaching career at Southwest Minnesota State University.

As a freshman at SMSU, she appeared in 25 games, averaging 6.2 minutes per contest. In a sophomore year hampered by injuries, she appeared in the final two games for three minutes apiece and was given a medical redshirt because of the hardship. As a redshirt sophomore, she returned to the court and saw two starts over 26 games. She had a career-high 39 rebounds and averaged 1.5 points per game.

Her final two years at Southwest Minnesota State, she transitioned to the sideline, serving as a student assistant coaching fundamentals and position work, she also helped in recruiting. She also helped coordinate various summer camps for attendees aged from 8 to 18 while also volunteering in the community by refereeing elementary basketball games.

Nelson is also a fixture in the Christian community. As a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), she has prepared and delivered speeches for weekly gatherings and served as a counselor for various FCA sports camps.

Nelson graduated from SMSU in May 2007 with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance. She is currently pursuing her master's of business administration.
