Since joining the Cougar staff, Hirrschoff has played a key role in the continued development of USF's pitching staff, bringing decades of experience as a player, instructor, and head coach. His knowledge of pitching mechanics, game strategy, and player development has helped shape a competitive and disciplined culture within the program.

Hirrschoff completed his fifth season with the Cougars in 2026, helping guide USF to a 26-26 overall record and a fifth-place finish in the NSIC. Under his direction, the pitching staff recorded 371 strikeouts across 406 innings of work and played a major role in the program's second consecutive winning season. He mentored Jake Ammann to a Chick-fil-A Athlete of the Month selection and helped left-handed pitcher Brady Bauer earn NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors.

In addition to his work on the field, Hirrschoff has helped foster a strong academic culture within the program. A veteran coach with extensive experience at both the collegiate and amateur levels, Hirrschoff began his playing career at South Dakota State University, where he pitched for the Jackrabbits from 1997-2002. He earned All-North Central Conference honors in 2002 and remains one of the accomplished pitchers from SDSU's Division II era.

Following his playing career, Hirrschoff remained with the Jackrabbits as a student assistant coach from 2003-04 before transitioning into the amateur ranks. He served as the head coach of Brookings Legion Post 74 from 2005-14, guiding the program to its first-ever South Dakota Legion Baseball state championship in 2012. He later spent the 2014 season as pitching coach for the Rochester Honkers of the prestigious Northwoods League before returning to Brookings Baseball in 2017 as head coach and coaching director.
