Brad Newitt is in his first season as the junior varsity head coach of the University of Sioux Falls men's basketball program.

Prior to this season, Newitt was the top assistant at the varsity level for 9 seasons, coordinating the Cougar recruiting and scouting efforts. He is a 1996 graduate of Kansas State University.

After earning his degree in secondary education, he continued his studies by earning a Master's degree in secondary education at the University of South Dakota.

Prior to joining the Cougars staff, he gained coaching experience for two seasons at the University of South Dakota, as a graduate assistant under Head Coach Dave Boots.

In 2004, Coach Newitt was named the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year. The award seeks to honor men and women who ""toil, frequently with little recognition, to make certain their programs are the best that they can be-while having a positive effect on the young athletes in their charge.""

Newitt is also a instructor of math and computer science at USF. Brad and his wife, Barb, have been married for 11 years and have one son, Sam, age 2.
