Friesen and Reinhardt qualify for nationals at John Dalton Invite

The University of Sioux Falls women's track and field team competed in its second indoor meet of the season Saturday, the John Dalton Open, at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.

Sioux Falls had a record-setting day, as three athletes hit provisional marks and qualified for Nationals. Overall, the Cougars had six first-place finishes between the men and women.

The day was highlighted by the performance of USF freshman Kayla Friesen (Alliance, Neb.). Friesen placed first in the pole vault and qualified for the National meet with a vault of 11'6".

Sophomore sprinter Lindsay Reinhardt (Vancouver, Wash.) was the champion of the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:38.99, also hitting the provisional qualifying mark.

Senior distance runner Michelle Kruthoff (Baltic, S.D.) placed first in the 800 meter dash with at time of 2:26.24.

Freshman Sarah Gilbert (Papillion, Neb.) placed third in the women's high jump (5'3").

Sophomore Amber Krogstad (Baltic, S.D.) placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 16'1".

Sophomore thrower Macie Cottier (Gillette, Wyo.) placed third in the shot put with throw of 37'3", while senior Kristin Weeldreyer came in fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 45'.

Cougar freshman sprinter Becca Bedard (Rapid City, S.D.) placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.69. Bedard was also third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.20.

The Sioux Falls women came in second in the 4 by 400 meter relay as the team of Krogstad, Kristina Aesoph, Bedard and Reinhardt finished with a time of 4:11.36.
