USF Volleyball Starts GPAC Stretch with 3-1 Loss to Briar Cliff

The University of Sioux Falls volleyball team dropped a crucial conference match-up with Briar Cliff University (11-10 overall, 4-3 GPAC) by a score of 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20).

In the first set the Cougar's grabbed and held a two point lead, before the Chargers made a push to tie the match 20-20. USF was unable to overcome BCU's momentum as the Chargers continued their surge to a 25-22 set victory.

Down 1-0, the Cougars built another substantial lead in the second set, but BCU fought hard to make it a competitive match. After a pep talk by head coach Lisa Mathes-Peters during a timeout with the score tied 15-15, the Cougars were able to make their own sure, taking the match 25-20.

The third set saw USF fall behind by a score of 14-20 at one point, but the Cougars seemed to make a comeback cutting the lead to three points. However, the Chargers were able to hold off the charging Cougars, taking the set 25-21.

In the fourth set, the Cougars only had the lead once, 3-1, as BCU took the set victory 25-20, and the match victory. Junior Danielle Roers (Lakeville, Minn) had one of her best nights of the season, totaling 18 kills, 13 digs and two blocks. Amber Sneller (Jr.; Sioux Center, Iowa) added 24 assists, 17 digs and 13 kills, while freshman Sarah Kohler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had 11 kills.

USF will return to the Stewart Center tomorrow to face No. 14 Morningside College (23-2, 6-0) at 3:00 p.m.
