The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team lost 2-1 to Dordt College (13-1-1 overall, 7-1-1 GPAC) in a cold rain at the USF Sanford Soccer Complex Wednesday night.
Scoring by both squads was completed by the 16th minute of the match. Dordt forward Kate Du Mez scored both of the Defender's goals. Her first goal came in the third minute of the match and was unassisted. Du Mez scored her second goal of the match, and 16th of the season, when she was able to dribble the ball around a few USF defenders and knock the ball into the corner of the net.
The Cougars responded as junior midfielder Megan Aanenson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) found the goal for the second time this season. Aanenson capitalized on a cross over pass from sophomore Ashley Dement(Harrisburg, S.D.) that appeared to had been stopped by the Defenders, but Aanenson found a rebound and put it in from a few yards out.
Although Dordt dominated the first half with 13 shots, the second half saw both teams combine for only nine total shots as neither team was able to score another goal.
USF will have another chance at a conference front-runner this weekend as they visit Fremont, Neb. to face Midland Lutheran College (12-3 overall, 8-2 gpac) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24.
