USF Women's Soccer Blanks Briar Cliff, 2-0

Sioux Falls, SD - The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team defeated Briar Cliff, 2-0, on a breezy Saturday afternoon at USF Field for the Cougars' third victory of the season.

Sophomore goalie Samantha Maybon (Omaha) finished with four saves and shut down the Chargers for the Cougars' first shutout of the season -- and the 1st of Maybon's career.

The Cougars secured their first goal of the match at the 13:25 mark of the first half. Freshman Kerry Grogan (Sioux Falls/O'Gorman) scooped up a wayward Briar Cliff pass and lofted a shot from thirty yards out that sailed just over the outstretched hands of the Briar Cliff keeper to give USF an early 1-0 lead.

USF struck again in the second half when senior midfielder Sarah Stoebner (Sioux Falls/Roosevelt) played a perfect pass onto the foot of freshman Erika Olson (Sioux Falls/O'Gorman), who drilled a shot to the far left post to give the Cougars a 2-0 cushion with 13:04 remaining.

With the win, USF improved to 3-3-0 while Briar Cliff fell to 2-3-1.

USF returns to action on Weds., Sept. 21, when the Cougars travel to St. Cloud ( Minn.) to take on the Huskies (1-3).
