USF Maintains 4th Place at NSIC Championship

The University of Sioux Falls women's golf team concluded the NSIC Fall Championship with a final-round 365 (+77) Sunday at the par-72, 5,935 yard Classics at Madden's course in Brainerd, Minn. to finish tied for fourth place among 13 teams.

The Cougars shot 365-365= 730 (+154) in the first two rounds of the championship, which will conclude with two more rounds in April 2013.

The Cougars entered the day tied for fourth with MSU-Mankato. Augustana College sits in first place with a two-round score of 646 (+70) and MSU-Mankato moved up to second place with a 696 (365-331). Concordia-St. Paul is in third and three strokes behind at 699 (340-359).

After a strong showing in the first round, USF sophomore Tavia Rutherford carded a second-round 85 (+13) to finish in the fall portion in seventh place with a 171 (+27).

Freshman Sara Swaney, who was tied with Rutherford for seventh after the first round, struggled some and posted a 92 to sit in a tie for 16th overall with Paige Schmidt of Winona State and Rachel Wold of Bemidji State.

Tia Nihart posted identical rounds of 92-92 this weekend for a 184 (+40) and is currently tied for 27th with Taylor Chase of St. Cloud State.

Freshman Audrey Kieliszewski showed great improvement, carding a 96 today which was seven strokes lower than her first round score of 103. She moved up four places and is currently in 45th place with a 199 (+55).

Kelsey Leif shaved two strokes of her first round score and sits in a tie for 46th with a 200 (101-99, +56).

The event concluded USF's fall season.

The 2012-13 NSIC Women's Golf Championship will consist of 72 holes, in which 36 will be played on October 6-7 at Madden's on Gull Lake. The final 36 holes will be played April 20-21 at the the Dacotah Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn.
