Cougars Drop Tough Road Match to Warriors

The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team lost a tough match on the road against Winona State, 2-0.

The Cougars dropped to 0-12 overall (0-10, NSIC) while the Warriors, who currently are second in the league standings, improved to 9-3 (8-1, NSIC).

WSU has won their last four contests and has shutout six of their nine league opponents.

The winning goal came in the 39th minute when Warrior Sammi Van de Linde headed a cross from Cailyn McCauley into the net for the first tally of her career. The Warriors scored a second goal in the 60th minute when Kati Baker bent a ball from the corner of the box that was out of the reach of USF goalkeeper Samantha Maybon.

Though the Warriors scored twice on her, Maybon still impressed with 10 saves in the game.

The Warriors outshot the Cougars by a 27-4 margin. WSU also held a 15-0 edge on corner kicks. Sidney Allen, Desiree Parmenter and Maria Gonzalez each recorded a shot on goal for USF.

USF will look to rebound with five straight games at home. The Cougars host MSU-Moorhead and Northern State next weekend.
