The USF baseball team tallied three hits and fourteen strikeouts Saturday, losing 9-0 and 7-0 in a nonconference doubleheader against Missouri Southern at Joe Becker Stadium.
The Cougars (2-4), who had not been shut out this season, were helpless against the senior pitching tandem of Cody Griebing (2-0) and Ryan Wheat (1-0) and struck out seven times in each game.
USF first baseman Jimmy Maxwell hit a pair of singles on the day.
Freshman Eric Brothers (1-1) was saddled with the loss in game one, giving up four runs on five hits with six walks and one strikeout. Chris Nichols (0-2) took the loss in game two, surrendering six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
USF and MSSU will wrap up the four game series tomorrow. First pitch of the Sunday twinbill is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
