BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Mitch Iliff continued his torrid stretch at the plate, earning his second consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week honor following a dominant four-game showing for the University of Sioux Falls baseball team.
Iliff powered the Cougar offense throughout the week, hitting .538 (7-for-13) while totaling six runs and nine RBI. The junior slugger launched five home runs, including a three-homer performance, and added a double to finish with 18 total bases. His production translated to a 1.385 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage, while he was also perfect defensively with 24 putouts.
This marks Iliff's second straight NSIC Player of the Week award, further cementing his position as one of the most dangerous hitters in the conference.
Series Breakdown
Iliff's biggest impact came during Sioux Falls' doubleheader sweep of Southwest Minnesota State on April 8. Across the two games, he went 4-for-7 with four runs, eight RBI, and four home runs. His performance was highlighted by a three-home run game, accounting for the majority of his RBI total on the day and powering the Cougars to a pair of conference wins.
He followed that up with another strong showing on April 13 at Minnesota Crookston. In the doubleheader split, Iliff went 3-for-6 with two runs, one RBI, and a double, while adding a home run in game one to extend his power surge.
Consistent Production
Over the four-game stretch, Iliff recorded hits in every game and reached base consistently while delivering in run-producing situations. His nine RBI led the team for the week, and his five home runs accounted for a significant portion of Sioux Falls' offensive output.
In addition to his impact at the plate, Iliff remained steady defensively, handling all 24 chances cleanly at first base.
Coach's Corner
"What can I say? Mitch put together another great week for us. He's been red-hot lately, as the numbers show, & it's been a lot of fun to watch. It's a good feeling as a head coach when you know if he gets one mistake in an at-bat, he's not going to miss it. And not only has he been swinging at an elite level for us, he's also been playing really good defense at first base & in centerfield when called upon. I'm glad he got hot when he did because our whole offense seems to be feeding off of it."
