USF Comes Up Short Against Minnesota Duluth

The University of Sioux Falls (0-7, 0-4 NSIC) women's soccer team fell to NSIC foe Minnesota Duluth (5-1, 0-4 NSIC) on Saturday by a score of 2-1.

The Cougars got on the board first when senior Maria Gonzalez weaved her way through the defense and snuck one past the Bulldogs goalkeeper to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. USF stifled the Bulldogs offense in the first half as the Cougars would take a 1-0 lead halfway through the match.

UMD tied up the game in the 51st minute when Marissa Ganske scored an unassisted goal for the Bulldogs. Ganske received the ball off of a deflection and put it in the back of the net from 10 yards out.

The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game in the 67th minute when Maureen Stormont took a pass from Dani Potter and put it in the back of the net, giving UMD the winning goal.

The Bulldogs controlled the game offensively as they recorded six more shots on goals than the Cougars and also had 10 corner kicks to the Cougars 0.

USF will compete again on Sunday, September 29th with the final game of a six game home stand against St. Cloud State. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the USF Sports Complex.
