ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The University of Sioux Falls volleyball team experienced offensive struggles again and fell to St. Cloud State for their second loss to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition. The Cougars were swept 3-0 for the second straight time, losing 25-21, 25-21, 25-13 on Friday night.
USF (5-6, 0-2 NSIC) recorded a .088 attack percentage on the match after committing 22 errors. While St. Cloud State (7-3, 1-1 NSIC) was limited to just a .194 attack percentage, they scooped up 42 digs, helping them hold the Cougars to a hitting percentage below .100 for the second straight match.
The first set was neck-and-neck, but SCSU pulled away to the 25-21 win. After an 11-11 tie, the Cougars committed 10 errors which paved a path to a St. Cloud State win. The Second set featured a similar storyline with a 17-17 tie being broken by a trio of SCSU points and an 8-3 run to close the set at 25-20.
With a 2-0 lead in the match, the Huskies wasted no time completing the sweep. Doubling up the Cougars at 8-4, St. Cloud State tagged 11 kills and hit .333 while the Cougars were limited to eight kills on six errors in the 25-13 set loss.
Michelle Ritland tied two SCSU hitters for a match-high eight kills. Kayla Crane and Sydney Schaap teamed up for 28 kills and Abby Folk posted a match-high 14 digs.
The Cougars close out a three-match road swing at No. 3 Minnesota Duluth tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
