Perkins posts fourth shutout of the season as USF Soccer ties Minnesota Crookston

SIOUX FALLS - Picking up another point on the season, University of Sioux Falls Soccer tied Minnesota Crookston 0-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. The scoreless draw moves the Cougars' record to 3-9-3 with a 3-7-2 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The Cougars had the best scoring chance of the afternoon in the 18th minute when Minnesota Crookston committed a foul in the 18-yard box and USF was awarded a penalty kick. Alexandria Scott stepped to the spot but her shot was stopped by UMC keeper Lexie Gauger, keeping the score tied 0-0.

In the first half, USF held a 3-1 advantage in total shots with a 1-0 edge in shots on goal with Scott's PK as the only effort on frame. The second half was much more lively as Minnesota Crookston recorded six shots on goal before regulation ended, but USF keeper Morgan Perkins would stop them all.

Sioux Falls launched four more scoring efforts in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net. Scott put another scoring effort on frame but it was stopped and Jackie Montes and Lauren LaFavre each had a shot on goal, but neither scored in regulation.

After the first 90 minutes was able to decide a winner, the game pushed to overtime. In the first extra 10 minutes of play, neither team budged and UMC was the only team to record a shot. In the second overtime period, USF's defense again stood tall wand didn't allow a shot, preserving the Cougars' third tie of the season.

In total, Perkins stopped all six shots she faced and she recorded her fourth shutout of the season.

The Cougars continue their three-game road trip at Bemidji State tomorrow, Oct. 23 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
