LaFavre scores in USF Soccer's 2-1 loss at Wayne State

WAYNE, Neb. – Lauren LaFavre scored her second goal of the season to lead a comeback attempt, but University of Sioux Falls Soccer dropped a 2-1 decision at Wayne State on Friday evening. The Cougars fall to 3-11-3 on the season with a 3-9-2 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.

The Cougars trailed by two goals when LaFavre cut the USF deficit in half with her second tally of the season. In the 76th minute of the game, Jackie Montes played a through ball to LaFavre who finished the play with a shot over the goalkeeper.

Through the first 30 minutes of play, the score remained tied at 0-0, but Wayne State finally broke through after controlling much of the first half. WSC held a 4-1 shot advantage in the first half and their only shot on goal found the back of the net.

The second half opened up for both teams, but Wayne State still held an 8-4 edge in shots, leading to their 12-5 total lead for the game. The Wildcats doubled their lead in the 54th minute when they converted on a throw-in for their second goal.

Montes recorded all three of her shots in the second half and she put two on frame but couldn't break through with a second goal for the Cougars. Ellie Rieder had USF's lone shot in the first half to round out the Cougars' offensive attack.

Morgan Perkins posted two saves in goal for the Cougars while the WSC keeper Kylie Comba turned away two of USF's three shots to earn the win.
