ABERDEEN, S.D. – Coming down to the final event, University of Sioux Falls Swimming captured their second victory of the season and in their program's history, defeating Northern State, 109-95, on Thursday evening. The Cougars won six of the individual events and took both the relays to secure the victory.
Allison Eppinga and
Mackenzie Crane were big for the Cougars winning both of their individual events, each with a dominating victories. Eppinga cruised to a victory in the 200 backstroke, posting a winning time of 2:05.30. Earlier in the meet, Eppinga won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.81.
Crane was perfect in her mid-distance events, winning both the 1,000- and 500-yard races. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native won by nearly 18 seconds in the 1,000 free, posting a 10:58.96 for the victory and she was equally dominant in the 500 free at 5:22.11 while
Morgan Hockel took fifth in the race.
Kyjana Webber had a great swim in the 100 free, earning the victory with a time of 54.23 seconds while
Ingelin Lima was second add points for the Cougars, turning in a 54.54-second swim. Webber joined Eppinga,
Ingelin Lima and Brianna Lavelle for the 400 medley relay win, opening the meet with a 4:01.54.
Lima also earned an individual victory, leading a 1-2 finish in the 50 free with a 24.68 swim. Webber was right behind her teammate with a 25.17-second lap and
Karlie Tiede took fourth in 26.16. To clinch the meet for the Cougars, Doerr, Tiede, Crane and
Michelle Hoffin combined swam a 1:41.52 in the 200 freestyle medley to win their seventh event of the night.
Hoffin and Lavelle scored for the Cougars in the 200 individual medley, finishing second and fifth, respectively. Hoffin clocked a 2:15.21 and Lavelle turned in a 2:27.65 for the Cougars. Hoffin added a second to-three finish for the Cougars, placing third in the 200 back, clocking a 2:15.03.
Doerr was runner-up in the 200 butterfly, posting a 2:13.02 and Lavelle was second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:10.92.
The Cougars continue their road trip as they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to take on University of Mary on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m.
