Box Score ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Closing out their nonconference schedule, University of Sioux Falls Soccer suffered a 5-0 defeat to Northwest Missouri State on Sunday. The Cougars drop to 0-3-1 on the season while the Bearcats improve to 2-1.
Northwest Missouri State jumped on the Cougars quick, scoring four goals in the opening 13 minutes of the game. USF came back with a shot on goal from
Alexa D'Acunto and scoring efforts from
McKayla Philippi and
Chessa Novotny in the first half, but they couldn't put a dent in the NWMSU lead.
Just under 10 minutes into the second half, the Bearcats extended their lead with another goal for their 5-0 advantage. The Cougars continued to move forward in an effort to cut into the NWMSU lead.
Lola Weiss fired a shot on target in the 68th minute and
Brooke Jensen put one on frame in the 85th, but the Bearcat keeper was up to task.
Becca Schmitz,
Jackie Montes and
Alexandria Scott all finished with a shot, but each was wide or blocked by a defender.
Morgan Perkins finished the day with five saves in goal for the Cougars.
USF returns to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action next weekend, traveling to Northern State and MSU Moorhead on Sept. 17 and 18, respectively.
