USF Soccer drops 2-0 decision to No. 21 Bemidji State

SIOUX FALLS – University of Sioux Falls Soccer dropped a 2-0 decision against No. 21 Bemidji State on Saturday. The Cougars fall to 4-8-3 on the season with a 3-6-3 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Bemidji State keeps their unbeaten record intact, improving to 12-0-2 and 10-0-2 mark in NSIC play.
 
The Beavers were quick to build a lead, scoring in the opening minute then tacking on another goal in the fourth minute for a 2-0 lead. Bemidji State maintained their pressure on the Cougars to the tune of a 10-4 edge in shots in the first half. Morgan Lovato recorded the Cougars first shot in the 21st minute with a header that drifted wide of the net.
 
Lauren LaFavre followed with a pair of shots in the 25th and 26th minutes, putting the latter on frame, but it was saved by the BSU keeper. McKayla Philippi's 27th-minute shot finished wide of the net, but capped off a three-minute spree where USF threatened to cut into the lead. Keeping the deficit at two goals, Morgan Perkins made a save in the closing seconds of the first half.
 
LaFavre opened the second half for the Cougars with her second shot on goal, but it was again saved by the BSU goalie. In the 80th minute, Lovato had USF's final scoring chance when she chased down a long ball but pulled her shot wide while on the run.
 
Perkins finished the game with four saves as Bemidji State totaled 13 shots to the Cougars' six for the entirety of the game.
 
Sioux Falls wraps up their home stand with a 1 p.m. game against Minnesota Crookston on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the USF Sports Complex.
